These 4 logos were found at the Logo Design Love blog. Discussed by the bloggers was how these are ideal examples of the use of negative space in logos. This is a great blog to view right now with our current project and can inspire ideas of how to do the same. Pictured above are abstract examples similar to the WWF Panda and FedEx ones we have already seen in class. The viewers' eye can put the negative white space together and make the outline to discover what shape or word, etc. you are trying to portray. I believe this helps to make a successful logo in that it has visibility, can be used in a variety of applications and has simplicity in its design. But even better, they have retention to engage the viewer because of the way the viewer gets to fill in the lines. I find the Human Logo to be almost humorous, yet scientific in its sperm outline use of negative space. The American Architects logo (the key) is extremely descriptive in its location with the city outlines. I believe overall the use of negative space is a skill one must hone during the conceptual process, but one which will take a company or product far into the future.

  1. I agree with you, taking advantage of negative space is great when designing logos. It helps enhance the logo yet it doesn't give the logo an over the top feel. My favorite logo of the ones you posted up is definitely the American Architects logo - very creative!
