Overall, this Real Time NFL fantasy football site provides an area of user-friendly interaction. The hierarchy among items on the top three rows of text make clear-cut distinctions of different categories to go to. Further adding to the user interaction is the ability of the user to wave the clicker over each item and the banner below to change accordingly with the relevant information. The items are also set up in the order a user is most likely to follow (most important ones top left and going across to least used spots in relation with how the eye scans), thereby stimulating its organization.
Also adding to the enhancement of the user experience, is how this site uses cascading style sheets because it can appear on an ipod touch or cell phone with less pictures (as they can be treacherous to download) and instead the mobile viewing shows more text. This is adjusted properly as most people going on the site via cell phone or other portable and small internet device are most likely going to make last minute line-up changes before games or in order to view quick synopsis on injuries and other breaking news that may effect their choices.
Similar to Edward Tufte's argument of maximizing data on the same screen (visual density) to provide all info laid out before the user, this site accomplishes the same task and by doing so, allows the user to have every click needed in from of him/her to direct them to their final destination.
Crucial in communicating the message of the website and its organization is its use of color to depict cues. For example, the red banners indicate regular and constant categories of use, while the other color banners involve ways to make money with your team. I do believe icons make less of an impact on the user because the text choices are easy to skim and therefore are what will determine the user's path. Although it contains lots of information, the site is simplistic in its three column lay-out and limited font choices. In line with Lupton thinking, the text stands out and the graphics of the background become a decision of the user about whether to take the time to view them or not. Most importantly, however, is the top and center area of the page devoted to welcoming the user and giving status on league and team. After all, the user is out to search and find what they need and what is most relevant to them in the fastest way possible.
