Cars, Grids, and other Wonderful Things

The grid system is a very logical and aesthetically pleasing way of designing a website, magazine, or other form of graphic media.  It involves clean lines and works with the natural movement of the eye to create an effective spread.  While looking for a new car, I was drawn to the Audi site (definitely not a car I can afford with my 15 hour a week job) but a girl can dream, right? Anyways, I noticed that this was a perfect example of the grid system!  Check out the Audi R8.  A $114,000 car is out of most people's budgets of course, but this is a really cool car.  The site that advertises it works on a grid, and doesn't deviate.

The website is so easy to follow and view, as everything is neatly placed on the grid and there is no deviation.  The entire website works like this; for every model and type there is the same layout on the same grid.  It's simple, clean, and perfect for a car manufacturer that wants to make things easy and elegant looking for customers.

The Syracuse University website also works effectively on a grid.  The visual images are tightly snapped to the grid, and the surrounding text is easy to read and follow as well.  Grids seem to be a really great tool for graphic designers working for companies that want to get the point across easily.  I don't see why anyone wouldn't want to use them!
